This year, we have 4 Board candidates running for 2 Board positions (see their statements below). Any owner can vote for the Board of Directors at the Annual Owners’ Meeting, online, or at the Co-op. Voting opens online on February 27! For more information on voting or on the Annual Owners’ Meeting, contact our Owner Services Coordinator, Tony, at tony@ozarknf.coop.

2012 Board Candidates
Beth Barham
I am a rural sociologist with a background in food systems, small farm and local food issues. If elected I would work to position Ozark Natural Foods as a regional leader, helping tie farms and local towns together through food. I believe Ozark Natural Foods can impact health outcomes for shoppers by improving their diet. I would like to explore how we could link with regional health care providers to address growing problems with diet-related medical conditions. Ozark Natural Foods is already having an impact on food security in the region and I would like to reinforce those efforts, as well.
Lorraine King-Markum
After sixteen years as a consultant and business owner, I have been actively involved in working with organizations and businesses to create a strong foundation, develop ethical leaders and put effective policies in action. I believe it’s critical for a board to function as a strong, diverse team that is clear in its objectives and the courage to be innovative. I think the most dynamic boards are proactive, wise in communication, and can reach consensus in decision making that will mutually benefit management, the staff and all vested parties. It would be a privilege to be a part of future positive changes at Ozark Natural Foods.
David Orr
I’m eager to share my knowledge and experience in non-profit management, budgeting, retail grocery, education and communications. I’ve been a co-op member in four states, and of Ozark Natural Foods in the 1970s. My detailed list of ideas and my longer-term vision for Ozark Natural Foods’s future is on my Facebook page, “David Orr for ONF Board of Directors”. Top items on my agenda: monthly open meetings listening and responding to members’ concerns, Ozark Natural Foods’ website a community hub for healthy lifestyles, Ozark Natural Foods’ memberships more affordable to lowincome residents, and more opportunities for member involvement in co-op governance. I need your support and your vote!
Joshua Youngblood
After recently accepting a position at the University of Arkansas, I joined the Co-op the first week I was in town because I want to be a part of an institution that provides healthful and ethical consumer choices for my family and is committed to the long-term prosperity of my newly adopted home. I believe that co-ops demonstrate how good businesses can be: soundly run and democratically governed while helping make the world better. I want to use my experience and commitment to help Ozark Natural Foods fulfill its vision of a world made stronger by the cooperative model.
